Pixie Dandruff Everywhere
Pinky Pie needs *something* for her Grand Entrance at the gala. In the episode “The Best Night Ever” she had a big pink train with candy corn decorations.
Since I’m not doing full drag (or full fursuit) for this production, I wanted something to evoke that train.
Enter the spangled tulle. It’s encrusted with fuchsia glitter and hexagonal spangles.
Which it sheds constantly. Hence “Pixie Dandruff”
I wanted to gather and swag this into not a full skirt, but something that could sweep behind me evoking both a bustle and a train.
I used the trick of 3 rows of gathering stitches and gathered seven full yards down to about 12 inches, and then stitched that to elastic I repurposed from a single suspender I found in my notions box (replaced the end clips with a simple two piece hook-together buckle/clasp, kept the adjustment slider).
Then I sewed seven pieces of 1/8″ woven ribbon to the waistband under the tulle, and hand stitched the yardage up into swags using diamond shaped “gem” buttons from our stash on the outside to secure each swag.
The result is large enough, actual hangs the way I hoped when worn, and OMG pixie dandruff everywhere.
Update 29 September 2024: as is visible in the final gallery photo, the train is now safely contained in a fine mesh laundry bag, to reduce the amount of spangles shed into the house.
