New Improved Shorts for Pinky Pie
The one thing I was REALLY unhappy with in my Pinky Pie outfit for the performance was the pink booty shorts. They managed to be a little too baggy in the legs, too tight in the waist, plus the whole malformed zipper fly. This is no doubt why they ended up in the “meh” bin in the garage in the first place. The fact that they were stretch shorts with a completely non-stretch waistband made them really unsalvageable.
So I ordered a few different pairs of new pink shorts, and one pair were perfect for the look I wanted. The VERS short from Awry is just the right length and has an elastic+drawstring waistband — and they fit just the way I hoped. There was one flaw — the drawstring was on the outside. That was easily remedied by pulling it out, hand-sewing buttonholes on the inside of the waistband and tacking the exterior buttonholes shut. The inside buttonholes are meh at best, to be honest, as its the first time I’ve ever tried hand-stitched buttonholes and because this was post-pants-construction, there is no interfacing to stabilize the edges. They worked.
The inkjet patch trick for cutie marks was not going to work on these very stretchy shorts, and our dye-sublimation printer is not set up yet, so I did a little research and found Ninja Transfers, an online shop who will make Direct Transfer Film iron-ons from your uploaded images. They are produces so there is no excess film extending beyond the color, and are more elastic than home inkjet iron-on transfer material.
They did mess up and send me 8 identical transfers instead of 4 left and 4 right, but given how subtle the difference is between the two images, and that they were only 2 bucks a pop, I just went ahead and used the same image for left and right. The new shorts are such an improvement. I need to rig a closure for the rhinestone belt (I safety pinned it in place for a party) but I’m super happy with the better look and fit!
And here’s a bonus pic of Pinky Pie all ready for a post-Halloween party (including new, actually working eye makeup!)
And yes, it’s blurry. The autofocus did not cope well with all the detail and I wasn’t wearing my glasses to notice.
