Tron Legacy: Cantor/Zuse
I’ve always been tempted by the glowy glowyness that is Tron, and in particular, the frock-coated costume Michael Sheen wears as Castor/Zuse has called to me. I decided to try and make a quick and dirty version of it to host a party. Not aiming for screen accuracy, but more for the general feel of the costume.

Castor/Zuse at Gallifrey!
I got all the final bits finished in time, and here are some fabulous photos from Gallifrey One!(Most of these are courtesy of Linda Wenzelburger… Thanks!)

Monday Madness — BOOTS!
Monday, still no power, so I took a large bag of parts to work so I could use my soldering bench there. I got leads attached to all but one of the remaining pieces of LED strip for the costume, and finished the wiring harnesses to connect to the power distribution from the upper back….

Couching in the Dark (backdated)
Saturday and Sunday I set out to try and get most of the wiring harness sorted and the next phases of the lighting done. Things were dramatically hampered when we lost power in the storm in the late afternoon Sunday, which stopped me from doing any soldering or machine sewing. As a result, this post…

All the couching is caught up! And the ID disk is cleaned up, too!
Couching the lighting strips… While the adhesive on the rectangular silicone tubing for the LED strips is really handy, experience has taught me that it will peel off of fabric at the least opportune time, so I should only trust it as basting.I’ve now hand-couched all the LED casing for the cuffs and “lapels” to…

Wednesday progress — wiring and caulk
Today’s work was a number of fiddly bits. Magnetic Connectors I bought a half dozen polarized magnetic connectors (only connect one way) that have mating USB-A cables for them, so I can keep battery connections moderately secure but they can break away if the cable snags hard on something. The device-end component, however, has pads…

Identity, Please! (plus cuff #1)
Identity Disk, roughed out After a fair amount of banging away at it, I have a reasonable facsimile of the “Identity Disk” for Castor. Fortunately the Tron cosplay/prop community measured and shared the dimensions of the prop, unfortunately that was for 3D printing, and modeling it in 10mm EVA foam offered a few challenges. But,…

Progress on the coat!
Modifying the neckline and lapels. The new closure works well, but the result still looked like a (cheap) tailcoat. After a bit of soul searching, I cut off the lapels and reseamed the edges to a smooth line, and trimmed the top of the “waistcoat” down to a square line (at the top of the…

Beginning coat modifications for Cantor/Zuse
The goal is to achieve something reminiscent of Michael Sheen’s costume as Castor/Zuse in Tron: Legacy. Without having to build a frockcoat from scratch. I started with a very inexpensive costume “frockcoat” purchased via AliExpress. It was essentially constructed like a labcoat — no lining, made of inexpensive cotton/poly twill, and the “waistcoat” is actually…

Lighting Test for Tron inspired coat
I want to attempt a Cantor/Zuse costume from Tron Legacy. First there is going to be a quick and dirty version of his illuminated tailcoat. These are pictures of a test lighting of 5 meters of white LED strip from a 5V power bank, using one AdaFruit 12V Boost modul.
