Now Two Paws, Plus Packing!
Two Paws are Better Than One
After the successful (but requiring lots of handwork to fix gaps in the seams) on the left paw, I set out to build the right paw a little more methodically.
First I trimmed the batting layer just about 1/8″ in from the edges. Then I hand basted the batting and lining to the the back layer of the paw. Once that was done, I hand basted (with a whip stitch) the front and back layers together. Then I zigzag stitched all the edges (there is no seam allowance, the zigzag wraps around the cut edge), running the stitches into the “sandwich” to create the separations between the fingers, then carefully cut them apart.
Voila! a pair of paws!
Is That a Squirrel in Your Bin or Are You Just Happy To See Me?
I’ve been presuming Rocky is going to be too big to fit into even checked luggage, so have been planning to ship him ahead, and was researching possible reusable shipping containers. Andy suggested I try test loading him into a 27″ securable storage bin we already had to see if it might work. Surprise! Even the monster tail fits! With plenty of room for the head and other bits and bobs.
Awesome progress! Glad it fits in the tub.
