Finishing Touches
Every equine character on My LIttle Pony has “cutie marks” on their flanks, and Pinky Pie is no exception. Her cutie mark is a trio of party balloons with contrasting strings, two blue and one yellow.
When I did Rainbow Dash, I was able to purchase iron-on patches of his cloud-and-thunderbolt cutie mark, but I found none of Pinky Pie’s balloon design available… time to break out the inkjet fabric!
As it happened, I already owned a pair of pink booty shorts in just the right shade of pink; they just needed some work.
I started by printing several drafts of the design on paper, until I got a reasonable match for my little pink shorts. Once I was happy with it, I printed it onto inkjet fabric and followed the instructions to increase colorfastness (Dry Iron at high heat; rinse in cold water, blot dry, finish drying by dry ironing at high heat again)
Then I satin stitched around the print and cut it out as patches I could iron on to the back pockets (using Bo-Nash Bonding Powder) and then hand stitch in place permanently.
I also replaced the original (bleah) jeans-style riveted waistband button and button hole with a fastener crafted from a pair of two-row bra hook extenders, so it will lie flatter.
While I was at it, I found a Pinky Pie patch I’d acquired as part of a set that came with Dash’s cutie marks, and added it to the jacket.
Finally, today arrived some miniature pink cowboy hats; one dog-sized and a box of Barbie-sized. The larger one should make a great fascinator!
