Meet Qubit!
Meet Cooper! He’s my friend Rae’s youngest dog, a typically rambunctious Aussie.
I’ve been meaning to design and build a canine fursuit for my puppy fursona “Qubit” for a while, and when I saw pictures of Cooper as a young pup, I asked Rae if I could have some photos of him from which to model the design. This was my favorite puppy photo of him.
Then I got stuck, trying to do a simple sketch of his adorable mug. I kept getting in my own way trying to capture the suggestion of the fur while scoping out the color patterns and general shape of his head and ears.
Flash forward to Further Confusion 2025, where I finally got smart and enlisted a professional. There are artists who will happily take a commission to create a sketch or custom art badge of your fursuit or furry character, and I had the good fortune to be first in line at artist Eli Benik, who among other things does pet portraits. We had a chat about what I wanted (substitute in blue for some of the natural Aussie coloration, and add a little rainbow mohawk) and about 5 hours later I got a call that it was done. (While I was at it, I commissioned a fursuit badge for Rocky).
I’m thrilled with the results, and now that that roadblock is out of the way, can start looking at the actual skull design for Qubit’s fursuit head. I intend to build this out so there can be a “partial” version (head, paws and tail plus street clothes) as well as a full fursuit version.
