Adding a Neck Cowl (plus gluing in the eyes)

Today I cut and made a simple fur cowl to attach to the head and give Rocky a neck without having to attach the head to the fursuit itself.

The cowl itself is pretty simple: two identical gores that joined match the inside diameter of the bottom of the head, stitched together for about 2″ below that, then split so one piece can fall in front and the other behind the chest and shoulders of the suit.

I may want to trim the “ruff” fur slightly just below the chin.

After sewing the cowl pieces together and doing a quick size check, I took the time to actually glue the eyes in place inside the head.

I then took a curved needle and carpet thread and with a moderately long backstitch hand-sewed the cowl inside the base of the head.

These photos are taken with the head resting on top of a rolled-up yoga mat. In the finished version, the cowl will probably be shortened to about half this length, but I’m not trimming it until I have the suit and can make sure the fur blends together, when brushed.

I may also add triangular gussets between the gores where it rests on the shoulders.
